Things To Do

Walking And Hill Walking

After a hearty breakfast there’ s nothing better than strapping on a pair of walking boots and exploring the exciting trails and mountains around Killin. We’ re located within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, which means you’ ll be spoilt by the variety of marvellous walks on offer, which can be tailored to suit any mood or ability.

Rob Roy Way

A well traversed route, and for good reason, is the famous Rob Roy Way, which stretches across Scotland between Drymen and Pitlochry and passes through Killin. Not for the faint hearted, the 148 Km walk takes seven days, and follows the paths taken by villainous Rob Roy MacGregor in the 17th and 18th centuries. We offer a shuttle service for walkers following in the footsteps of the famous Scottish outlaw, and after a well earned night spent recharging your batteries at the Inn, we’ ll be happy to drop you back en route.

Hotel Events

Ben Lawers And The Munro’s

If you’ ve set your sights on “ bagging,” a Munro, then climbing Ben Lawers, – the highest and by far the most impressive mountain in Perthshire, is an absolute must. The exquisite panoramic views of Scotland offered at its peak on a clear day include the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. And if that’ s whet your appetite for hill walking, you’ ll be glad to hear that there’ s nearly twenty Munro’ s in the area, including the amazing Tarmachan Ridge, Ben More and many more, visit for inspiration.

The Infinity Pool

On a warm summers day nothing beats a bracing dip in crystal clear Scottish fresh water. Last year we stumbled upon a truly magical picnic spot, which is about 40 minutes walk from the Inn, and has its’ own rock infinity pool surrounded by fantastic scenery. We can promise an unforgettable picnic at the unique hill side spot, so be sure to ask our staff for directions to its secret location.

Killin To Loch Tay

You can’t stay in Killin without making a trip to see Loch Tay. What better way to get there than by taking a lovely stroll? The old Killin branch railway may not be running anymore, but it does provide a lovely easy walk down to the loch. Once on the path, you will quickly find a relic of the old railway line that still stands. The old iron bridge still stands over the water of the river. On the other side of the river the walk briefly leaves the riverside and the old railway line to pass through some grazing lands. If you have a dog with you you should make sure to have it on a lead for this portion of the walk.

The path will drop you down right on the southern tip of Loch Tay. You can choose to make the walk into a loop which will bring you back onto the A827 for a stretch. Of course, you can always backtrack and stay off the roads.

The whole walk is around 5km, so a good distance for any level of walker. As it can be muddy by the river you should make sure to wear a good pair of walking boots.

West Highland Way

If you don’t mind travelling a little distance away then you can easily reach part of the West Highland Way. This popular long-distance walk has a section that is well serviced by train stations just 22km to the West of Killin. You can easily hop on the train to Arduli, right by Loch Lomond, and then walk as much as the West Highland Way as you want to fit in. There are stations in Crianlarich, Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy where you can hop on to round out your trip. You’ll have a whole new appreciation for the view out of the train window after you have walked through it.

The route does have some hill climbs in it so you may want to pick your section with care. It is well signposted and easy to follow, making it a great option for all levels of walker.

Our chefs can provide delicious packed lunches for hungry hill walkers upon request.
